Jack wrote an influential article in the Guardian on ripping up front gardens. In the Ecologist magazine Jack highlighted the problems of the great garden grab, in which developers - encouraged by the government - were recklessly building on gardens.

He is an expert on street trees, which have recently come under threat from insurance firms, who see them as a potential hazard to property. His article on the threat to trees was published in the Times.

He also writes factual reports about fruit and vegetable prdocution for Horticulture Week. Some of his recent articles include prospects for the berry industry in 2009,
